4Chan: I Have Never Used It

Image representing 4chan as depicted in CrunchBase

But it has become quite a cultural force, kind of like Anonymous.

4Chan reaches one billion posts
Based on stats from Google Analytics, between June 4th and July 4th of this year the site had more than 22 million unique visitors and 620 million page views — and those users are posting more than one million times each day

Traffic: Canada Top Country, 2 AM Peak

Image of Dario Meli from TwitterImage of Dario Meli
Now I remember why I disabled Google Analytics for this blog months back: you keep wanting to go back to check the latest numbers.

Blogger Stats

For the past week Canada has been my top country, it has given me 50% more traffic than the US. Go figure.

There is a peak for 2 AM on July 13 for the week. I thought that might be India. Nope. It's Canada. Might those be college students pulling all nighters? Toronto? Hello there. Thanks for dropping by.

@quikness might appreciate my Canada popularity.

This has been my top post this past week: Brazil.

What Just Happened? 3,000 Page Hits

Given enough page hits, I could do this near full time while I wait to launch my company. That would be swell. Would be a great way to prepare for a company launch. Somebody once said blogging is like graduate school seminar. It can be. It can be many other things as well.

Blogging falls in the mind food domain.

Blogger Stats

Image representing Blogger as depicted in Crun...Image via CrunchBase
Weeks back (Redesigning My Blog) I got rid of Google Analytics (and Google Ads) from this blog to speed up the loading time. Every micro second matters. The faster the better. Readers like it fast.

Today I learn Google has integrated stats into Blogger itself. That is a good thing.

Blogger In Draft Blog: Introducing Blogger Stats
Blogger In Draft

I just learned this blog had 335 page views yesterday.

I just published a blog post - Brazil: The Overconfidence Of A Soccer Superpower - like a minute ago, and it already has 13 views. Wow.

For yesterday I have a peak around midnight - that must be India - and another, bigger pick around noon, more like 2 PM - that is America. Bollywood, Hollywood.

Last week my most visited post has been this: Larry Ellison. That just so happens to be one of my favorite posts.

Redesigning My Blog

For the longest time I thought that was Google's responsibility. My blog is hosted by Blogger. Google owns Blogger. So it is Google's responsibility. Then weeks back I read this post by Fred Wilson: AVC Redesign. I left the longest, most detailed comment of anyone there. Mostly I disagreed with the basic thrust of what he was saying. Your blog looks good as is, let it be, I said. But a few days later I found myself working on the redesign of my blog.

The number one desire I discovered was I wanted my blog to load as fast as possible. I was surprised that I took out the things I took out. I got rid of the code for Google Analytics. More recently I got rid of Google Ads. I reduced the number of posts on the front page to two from three. I got rid of a whole bunch of things from the right hand column. I got rid of the Amazon ads. I got rid of the Amazon search box. I got rid of the Amazon music box. People don't come to my blog to listen to music. I don't think so. What was I thinking? I was surprised by how much I was able to get rid of.

And the blog started loading faster. It was noticeable. Every split second counts.

Finally today Fred Wilson has done it as well. His blog is now one lean machine. Because fast is not fast enough.

See you on June 6, Fred Wilson, will be my first time meeting in person. After having read so many of your blog posts by now I think I have a right to meet you. And congratulations on winning the Lincoln-Douglas debate at TechCrunch Disrupt. Felt like a trophy for the hometown. (TechCrunch Disrupt, Fat Can Work, But Lean More Often Does)
